SMC Or The Specialty Marketing Corporation Critical Review...

I loved Happy Days when I was kid. Who didn't? If I'm being honest here, that is all I can think about when I see "Howard" on the infomercials early in the morning.

Specialty Marketing Corporation is actually a cool thing. I know quite a few people that make serious cash at flea markets and different events traveling around with there products. For that purpose, and I am sure for many other purposes, I think SMC is a good source for purchasing items to be re-sold in some capacity.

Now in my opinion only, when it comes to doing business online you can not afford to have 1,000 different products. You really do need as they say a good niche, I mean unless you are Wal-Mart or something like that who can afford to catalog, index, monitor and bill out all of these products.

Now with that being said I do understand how a drop shipping business works as I use a company for printer and copier supplies that I sell through my copier dealership to drop ship directly to my customers. However, online advertising is a tricky sort of thing and just trust me here, 1 or 2 products alone can be very difficult to promote let alone thousands.

Maybe you could pick only those products related to a certain niche and put them up on a site. Then advertise like crazy and see what happens. I don't know. If you are going to move forward with the Specialty Marketing Corporation or any similar program I would at least limit myself to a few of what seem to be the best and most appealing products.

You do not need to appeal to the largest group of people but rather find a product related to some small niche of people. In this case actually the smaller the niche the better. Horse training, fish tank cleaning, plumbers or whatever. Then focus your advertising on places that those specific people would frequent.

If you place an ad in the Plumber's monthly online newsletter for a product that claims to seal a pipe ten times faster and easier than conventional methods for a reasonable price I would bet that you will sell some sealer.

Any way, that's the idea when it comes to marketing this kind of product. SMC and Tom Bosley (Howard) are pretty cool in my book. Specialty Marketing Corp. is a reputable company to purchase product from and that is so important in finding a good wholesaler as searching, especially online can be endless. How do you know who to trust?

I have also heard that there pricing even for those just starting out are at a point where it is possible to achieve a nice mark up. As always you just have to know how and where to sell.

It is not as easy as the infomercial and all infomercials like SMC would have you believe and I am glad that I do not have to worry about selling thousands of small ten and twenty dollar items just to make a couple grand.

By the way that is a huge draw back to this business. How many orders do you think you would have to process of a $20 item to make an extra 5 grand a month? A lot I would say.
